17.06.2019

Eurican is a French-made vaccine that has gained popularity around the world. At the moment, it is one of the most effective means for the prevention of such dangerous canine diseases as: rabies, distemper, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, parvovirus enteritis. The animal develops stable immunity on the 21st day after using the vaccine and lasts for a year.

Description of the drug Eurikan. Its release form and composition

Eurikan is a vaccine consisting of two components - Eurikan DHPPI2 And Eurikan RL. These components are the main active ingredients of this vaccine.

Eurican DHPPI2 is a slightly yellowish powder. These are, in essence, attenuated strains of plague, parainfluenza, adenovirus and parvovirus viruses.

Eurican RL is a clear liquid with a characteristic white precipitate. This liquid consists of inactivated leptospira serogroups Canicola and Icterrohemorrhagia and inactivated rabies virus. On the modern market of veterinary drugs you can also find the Eurikan vaccine, the second component of which is not Eurikan RL, but Eurikan L. The difference between these vaccines is that Eurikan L does not contain an inactivated rabies virus, as a result of which it is not able to protect the animal from rabies virus.

Each vaccine component is packaged in 1 ml glass flasks. in each. To vaccinate an animal, immediately before vaccination, the contents of both flasks are combined by moving the liquid component of the vaccine to the powder component using a sterile syringe and shaken.

Indications for use of Eurikan and instructions

Eurikan is a medical product that does not belong to the medicinal category. It has purely preventive action. It is important to clearly understand that it is unsuitable for the treatment of any dog diseases.

The main indication for the use of Eurican is the absence of vaccinations in the animal against rabies, plague, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, and parvovirus enteritis.

When deciding to vaccinate your pet with Eurican, you should remember a few simple rules:

  • First, the animal should be closely monitored for several weeks before vaccination. It wouldn’t hurt to take your four-legged friend to the veterinarian for a routine check-up several times. All this should be done to ensure that the animal is completely healthy.
  • Secondly, it is advisable to carry out deworming approximately 12 days before vaccination. Under no circumstances should this procedure be carried out later.
  • Thirdly, if you decide to protect your dog from dangerous diseases with the help of Eurican, you should remember that it is very important to follow the vaccination schedule in the future. So the first vaccination with this drug is recommended for an animal at the age of 3 months. The next one is in 4 weeks. Further vaccination is carried out regularly throughout the life of the animal with an interval of 1 year.

A single injection dose is 1 ml. regardless of the age, weight and breed of the dog. It can be administered either subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Consult your veterinarian before use!

Contraindications and side effects from vaccination with Eurican

  • Individual hypersensitivity and intolerance to the components of the drug.
  • Vaccination of an animal against rabies, plague, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, parvovirus enteritis, etc. with other drugs.
  • The dog has helminths.
  • The presence of one of the diseases in the animal from which Eurican protects.
  • The animal is less than 3 months old.

Side effects after using Eurican occur in a fairly small number of dogs and, as a rule, are expressed in mild swelling in the injection area. Allergic reactions occur much less frequently, however, they are very mild and go away on their own within 24 hours.

It is unlikely that you will meet an owner today who does not know about the need to vaccinate their pets. Hoping for chance can cost a dog not just his health, but also his life. But how to choose one that will be most useful and harmless for the dog? One of the best vaccines these days is called “Eurican” for dogs, produced in France. Let's try to figure out how to properly administer this drug to animals, as well as what its features are.
  • "DHPPI2-LR"- a vaccine that, like the previous one, combines a dry mixture of strains of adenovirus, parainfluenza, plague, parvovirus and a liquid containing leptospira and rabies glycoproteins. That is, unlike DHPPI2-L, the DHPPI2-LR vaccine also promotes the development of immunity against rabies;
  • "Piro"- dry vaccine included with a diluent. Helps save dogs from piroplasmosis (babesiosis);
  • Primo- vaccine in the form of a liquid (suspension). Promotes the development of immunity against parvovirus enteritis.
  • How and where to administer Eurican to dogs?

    The instructions from the Merial company state that it is permissible to administer Primo, the first of the Eurikan vaccines, at the age of 4-6 weeks, revaccination with it is carried out after 6 weeks, and then the drug is re-injected a year later, and then every 2 years. The DHPPI2-L vaccine is injected at 7-8 weeks, and then it’s time for DHPPI2-LR, which is administered to dogs at 12 weeks and once annually. The Piro vaccine is used for puppies at the age of 5 months. Revaccination is carried out at 6 months and then once annually. The manufacturer offers the following vaccination schedule for puppies (before administration, it is necessary to agree on the vaccination schedule with a veterinarian and clarify which vaccine should be preferred and which one should be refused):
    1. At 2 months – “DHPPI2-L”;
    2. At 3 months – “DHPPI2-LR”;
    3. At 5 months – “Piro”;
    4. At 6 months – “Piro” (revaccination);
    5. After 15 months and then annually once - “DHPPI2-LR”;
    6. After 18 months and then annually once - “Piro”.
    Before vaccinating a dog, the dry and liquid components of Eurican are mixed with each other, vigorously shaking. The Eurican Primo vaccine is simply shaken, since it is already liquid. Then the animal is given a subcutaneous injection in the scapular area or an intramuscular injection in the hip area (“Primo” is injected subcutaneously in the scapular area). In the case of Eurican Piro, the injection is made subcutaneously in the withers area. It is recommended to treat the injection site with an alcohol solution. If possible, it is advisable to vaccinate under the supervision of a doctor (or have him inject the dog).
  • In some cases, dogs may develop a slight swelling at the injection site (it goes away on its own within a day or two). An apathetic state is also possible. After “Eurikan Piro”, pets experience increased and very rarely anaphylactic shock (this will require urgent contact with a veterinarian);
  • Regardless of the dog’s weight, gender, and gender, the vaccine is administered in an amount of 1 dose equal to 1 ml.
  • What do dog owners think about Eurikan vaccines?

    Here are some reviews from owners who used the Eurican vaccine to save their dogs:

    Review #1:“We got a puppy. Naturally, we decided to get all vaccinations to exclude infectious diseases. The doctor recommended Eurican. At the time of the injection, the puppy didn’t even make a sound, but by the evening he looked bad: his temperature jumped, he refused to eat, he didn’t even want to drink, he just lay there sad. In the morning I went up to him, he seemed to have eaten a little minced meat, he even barked a couple of times, there was no temperature. That is, there were side effects, albeit short-lived”;

    Review #2:“We used to inject the dog with Hexadog, but the veterinarian suggested trying Eurikan from the same manufacturer. What can I say, I didn’t pick up any infection for the whole year after the vaccination (they took the “DHPPI2-LR” injection). So I have no doubt about its effectiveness. True, there was a big bump at the injection site for about 4 days, but then it went away on its own”;

    Review #3:“I heard a lot of rave reviews about Eurican from friends who have dogs. I decided to try making one for my Max. I can’t blame this drug, because my comrades praise it; their dogs had no side effects. But the vaccine is definitely not suitable for Max: he refused to go for a walk (walked in a circle around the house and wandered to the entrance), his nose was dry for a day, he ate very little. The dog was visually unwell. So it’s an individual matter – it suits one person, not another.”

    Cost of Eurikan vaccines for dogs

    The price for Eurikan drugs is as follows (price for 1 dose):
    • "DHPPI2-L" - 270-350 rubles.
    • "DHPPI2-LR" - 450-550 rubles.
    • “Piro” - 2300-3000 rubles.
    • “Primo” - 250-300 rubles.

    It's no secret that four-legged pets get sick no less often than their owners. Unfortunately, ailments of dogs and cats in most cases turn out to be quite serious. In order to save a friend, you must act quickly and calmly. Let's figure out why the Eurican vaccine is needed, what effect it has, and what diseases it is aimed at treating.

    "Eurikan": description

    "Eurikan" is a complex hexavalent vaccine. The composition of the drug is two-component. It includes:

    • "Eurikan" DHPPI2 is a lyophilized vaccine aimed at combating canine distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, as well as type 2 parainfluenza in dogs.
    • "Eurikan" RL - liquid vaccine. Contains in inactivated form, as well as leptospira of the Canicola and Interohemorrhagia serogroups.

    Another type of vaccine is also commercially available. Its composition contains “Eurikan” L instead of “Eurikan” RL. The difference between this liquid component and the one mentioned earlier is that it does not contain an inactivated rabies virus. Consequently, when vaccinated with such a drug, the dog does not acquire immunity from this dangerous disease.

    Indications for use of the vaccine

    For what diseases is Eurican used? Instructions for use reveal the purpose of the drug:

    1. Carnivore distemper is a viral disease that manifests itself in extensive damage to the dog’s skin in combination with fever, damage to the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the course of the disease is often complicated by pneumonia. Puppies are especially susceptible to canine distemper, but infection in adulthood cannot be ruled out.
    2. Adenoviral infection is a contagious disease that affects the larynx, bronchi and trachea. Signs of the disease include cough, nasal discharge, fever, vomiting, as well as intestinal and stomach disorders. Symptoms such as shortness of breath and decreased activity of the dog are also common.
    3. Parvovirus infection has two forms of manifestation: intestinal and cardiac. Symptoms of the first type are fever, diarrhea, vomiting, inflammation of the mucous membranes, and abdominal pain. In the cardiac form of infection, damage to the heart muscles occurs.
    4. Parainfluenza type 2 - affects the upper respiratory tract. Manifests itself in the form of tonsillitis, cough, serous discharge from the nose. Vomiting is sometimes observed. At the same time, the dog’s appetite does not deteriorate.
    5. Leptospirosis is an infectious disease that poses a danger not only to the pet, but also to its owner. It proceeds secretly. Does not show any clinical signs. The pathogen, entering the dog’s body, causes damage to the liver, kidneys and mucous membranes, fever, jaundice, and dysfunction of the central nervous system. The incubation period does not exceed 15 days. Leptospirosis leads to the inevitable death of the animal.

    Contraindications and side effects

    Contraindications to the use of the vaccine in animals are: the following factors:

    • Do not use in already infected dogs.
    • Helminth infestation. If deworming is used, vaccination is recommended no earlier than 10 days after the procedure.

    Like any other drug, Eurikan also has some side effects. Instructions for use for dogs warn of possible swelling at the injection site. In rare cases, an allergic reaction cannot be ruled out, requiring subsequent symptomatic treatment. "Eurican" activates the production of antibodies specific to the previously mentioned viruses. The pet’s immunity is formed already on the 21st day after vaccination. And the protective effect lasts throughout the year.

    "Eurikan": instructions for use, manufacturer

    The medicine is produced in France by the pharmaceutical company Merial. Before vaccination, a mixture must be prepared from the two components that make up the drug. In this case, it is necessary to follow the rules of antiseptics and use only sterile materials. The injection dose, regardless of the weight and age of the animal, is 1 ml. It is recommended to carry out the first vaccination at the 7th week of a dog’s life, and repeat vaccination after three to five weeks.

    "Eurikan" for puppies: instructions for use

    One of the main issues is the possibility of using the vaccine for puppies. After all, most viral infections occur in childhood. So, is Eurikan safe in this case? Instructions for use allow vaccination of animals from 3 months. The drug is safe and easily tolerated by the puppy without causing side effects.

    In addition, the vaccine can be used even in pregnant females. Neither abortions, nor a decrease in litter size, nor other local or systemic reactions are observed in the bitches. The main condition is sterility in the preparation of the solution, as well as the health of the animal. If there are symptoms of infection, the vaccine can worsen the situation and lead to the inevitable death of the dog. Pay attention to the health of your pets and prevent dangerous diseases in a timely manner.
