Sometimes cases arise when it is much more profitable, both financially and in terms of saving time, to repair your car yourself. In this regard, today we will consider how you can easily and quickly restore the front floor of a car. As you can see in the photo below, you will have to change the entire square, which is completely rotten, entirely; patches will not help in this case.

What you need to pay attention to at the preparatory stage:

Firstly, it is necessary to place the machine so that it is convenient to work, that is, so that there is comfortable access to it both from below and from the door;

It is also recommended to cover the dashboard and seats with film to prevent dust from getting on them when you need to cut out a piece of the floor. After this, you will need to purchase or, if possible, get a free piece of iron in order to cut out “a part of the required size for the floor.”

You will also need a front jack and a sill connector for the repair. What materials are suitable for processing? you will need to coat it with Body 930, and the floor, after welding, will need to be filled with anti-corrosion primer Body 992.

What else awaits the craftsmen during their work? You will have to raise the support (pictured below), under which, most likely, you can find y. The joint of the new metal will go underneath it.

How to lift it? It is necessary to drill out points that will later help you navigate, or you can set other marks for yourself.

You definitely need to get to the very place where it stood, otherwise there will be problems with installing the seat. At the top of the threshold, you need to focus on the area where the paint is preserved, and it is along the edge of this area that you need to cut out the rusted piece of flooring.

As for the door, it is better to remove it. This will help create more comfortable working conditions. Of course, it will take a little more time to repair, but in the future it will not interfere with the work.

In this particular case, a semi-automatic machine and CO2 gas will be used for welding.

At the initial stage of work, you need to drill out the base. The points are marked, then you will need to put it in place.

As you can see, the support was removed for good reason; there is a lot of rust underneath, which must be removed, as well as the boundaries of the new plank must be marked.

You should also take into account one more important nuance: welding will be carried out in the places indicated in the photo.

As a result, the anticorrosive material will burn under the arch. To install a new one, you will need to remove the wheel and fender liner. However, first, when these elements are removed, you need to cut out the rusted section of the floor. In places where you can find points, you will simply need to drill them out; where they cannot be found, you will need to cut off the metal. As one of the options for reducing dust in the cabin, you can pour water over the treatment area and cut on an already wetted surface. Once the area of ​​the rusted floor has been cut out, you can move on to the next step.

Do not forget that under the area shown in the photo there are brake and fuel pipes. Therefore, you need to disconnect them, make a spacer so that they are as far away from the metal as possible.

After this, you can cut off the old floor. Where the points are visible, it’s a little easier; in these places they can be drilled out and the metal separated.

In places where they are not visible (like on a spar), you can cut off the edges or even make a cut in the middle and, by prying up the cut area, find these points. The main idea is to leave the spar, which after cleaning will be in good, working condition.

In addition, as you can see from the photo, in place of the base plank, where there used to be quite a lot of rust, there is now an almost clean place. All you need to do is sand the area down, treat it with a rust converter, cover the area with primer and there is no need to cut it off.

Next we need to cut out the front jack, as it is quite rusty, and we also have a new one. As for the threshold connector, it is still in good condition and there is no need to do the extra work of cutting it out and replacing it with a new one.

Once the floor is welded, a cross member will need to be welded on top.

It is necessary to weld the front jack, install the threshold connections, coat the new piece of flooring on top with a primer, and cover the bottom with lubricant, Body 930 will do.

Repair and maintenance of VAZ 21099 (Samara)

Model VAZ-21099 Sputnik / Samara Forma is a four-door sedan produced by the Volga Automobile Plant.

The VAZ 21099 model has been produced since 1990. "Ninety-nine" is, in essence, a "nine" with a four-door sedan body. The final model of the Samar family differed from its older sisters in its overall length, which, due to an increase in the rear overhang, increased by 200 mm in relation to other cars in the family. Since the start of production, modifications with carburetor and injection engines with a displacement of 1.3 liters (VAZ-210993) and 1.5 liters (VAZ-21099) have been produced in different years. Currently, the VAZ-21099 is still considered one of the most prestigious domestic models and is still highly rated on the market as the most convenient and now familiar and practical car. Suffice it to say that in this, in principle, city sedan you can still regularly travel to the countryside. The initially high price of the VAZ-21099 for a domestic small car hints that the car is not intended for transporting goods to the market. But for representatives of the “middle class” (especially those affected by the crisis), “ninety-nine” is simply an excellent option. The car is quite representative and versatile (the back of the rear seat, although not in parts, reclines, allowing you to transport long loads). Moderately decent domestic upholstery materials available to the factory do not scare away “our” consumers with their imperfections.

However, given the rank of the model, be prepared to pay a premium! If it is a Sputnik VAZ-21099, pay a little less, if it is a re-export Samara Forma, pay a little more. If the seller is young, and his “car” is plastered with stickers and stuffed with “toys”, like a mini-market display case, then it is better to evaluate not so much the age and wear and tear of the car, but rather its possible criminal history (the model has long been the leader in the country in terms of “theftability”). There are still doubts regarding the feasibility of the newfangled fuel injection system and its repair due to some high cost and unreliability of the electronic unit that controls this injection. Although, it must be admitted, the prevalence of spare parts for the injection system (at least in the capital), as well as the possibilities for its repair, are steadily growing. The advantages of injection over a carburetor - stability of operation, efficiency and environmental friendliness - are obvious. Moreover, recently more and more cars have been entering the domestic market with an “adapted” injection system without a neutralizer, which makes it possible to operate it on leaded gasoline.

The “sharp” steering, so characteristic of all cars of the first front-wheel drive generation of VAZ (also called “chisel”), on the “ninety-nine” is somewhat blurred by the greater roll of the elongated sedan in turns. The rigid suspension is no worse or better than that of many foreign cars. Therefore, ride comfort is not the best thing about this car. However, the seats are soft, the ceiling is too, and everything else is made of rubber and polyurethane foam, so this sedan, among all its compatriots, is also safe inside...

As the opposite of the VAZ-21099, for use for utilitarian purposes we can consider the five-seat, five-door VAZ-2109F "Shuttle", originally intended for transporting small consignments of cargo. Now 21099 shone in two guises at once - as the only domestic affordable front-wheel drive sedan, and as the only alternative to Passats, Orions, Ascons and other stars of the European secondary market.

Their price is more than affordable, which pushes many people to experiment with visual tuning of the VAZ 21099.

At disassembly, you can find a complete set of still living tail surfaces for 10 thousand, so the profitability of welding work can only be considered in relation to the side members, subframes, bottom or wheel arches. If the whole thing is well boiled, treated with mastic and soundproofed, then such a body will outlive more than one owner, and this is an absolute plus for models of the eighth and ninth families.

Repair and tuning of engine 21099

The maintainability of old 21099 engines is explained by the simplicity of the design, the presence of all, or almost all, necessary spare parts and a minimal set of tools. Skills come already during repairs, so it’s never too early to get into the engine of a ninety-nine. It's hard to mess something up there. Stock cars were equipped with 1.5 and 1.3 liter engines; sometimes you can find 1.1 liter export versions, but they are practically the same in design. The same as engines with injection and carburetor.

The design of the first generation injection system itself is simple and unpretentious in maintenance. Any spare part can be found both in the factory version and from third-party manufacturers. You only need to monitor the quality of spare parts. Experienced owners of nines recommend taking valve seals, crankshaft seals (front and rear) and camshaft seals not domestic, but Italian. Their catalog numbers are easily verified, so in this case it is better to overpay than to re-disassemble the motor due to a suddenly leaking oil seal. You should also be careful when selecting the head gasket. A poor-quality gasket can cause quite a lot of trouble.

When it comes to repairs, the engine does not cause any particular problems, with the exception of some proprietary nine diseases. Carburetor, distributor, fuel pump in a carburetor power system. At first, the distributor could relax those who were accustomed to classic ignition with contacts with its non-contact nature, but it soon became clear that the non-contact distributor also had its drawbacks. You can often notice oil leaks inside the distributor. This is also greetings from suppliers of bad seals and seals. This issue needs to be resolved, otherwise everything will splatter with oil under the distributor cap, and then there can be no talk of any spark.

The problem is small, replacing the oil seal takes no more than half an hour, but after that you need to set the ignition using a strobe light. Also, sometimes the distributor cap comes out, as on all classic Zhiguli cars without exception, even though the ignition is contactless. The cover is simply sewn on, and a spark shoots out to ground. If you don't know that the cover may be the culprit, you can start changing all the electronics, but to no avail. The root of all troubles is the lid. This is where you need to start looking for faults in the ignition system. The electrical equipment of front-wheel drive cars is quite reliable, and as for the generator, starter and relay, most often no one repairs them. In rare cases, they simply change the brushes in the generator, and the starter can spoil the mood either by the solenoid relay or by shorted windings, which happens extremely rarely.

Repair of suspension and transmission VAZ 21099

The 21099 suspension is no different in its design sophistication. All the same struts as on the nine, the same bushings and the same creaks and knocks of the anti-roll bar. Nothing new, but nothing complicated either. Any malfunction of the front suspension can be corrected with your own hands; the main thing, again, is not to get into trouble with a low-quality silent block or support. At one time, ball joints of dubious quality simply flooded the market.

Therefore, it is better to overpay a little for a ball that is obviously good and of high quality, than to carry out dubious experiments on your own safety.

There were no particular problems with the checkpoint either. The only thing that was annoying was the leaks. Constant oil leaks, and as a result of a drop in the level, constant topping up. Most often it leaked from under the gear shift rod, which is even more difficult to get to than the drive seals. Fortunately, it is not necessary to remove the box to replace the seal. Everything can be done by car, but you will have to work hard. Another problem with all nine-gear gearboxes is the second gear synchronizer, but if you don’t accelerate to 3000 rpm in first and then switch to second, the synchronizer will last much longer. There is nothing more bad to say about the gearbox, the only thing is that you need to monitor the oil level, despite all the leaks, otherwise the fifth gear gears can very quickly fail.

When buying a VAZ 21099 on the secondary market, you need to be prepared for the fact that you will immediately have to roll up your sleeves. This is not a car that will let you relax. Depending on the condition, the care of the previous owner and the equipment, the car can run for hundreds of kilometers, but this, of course, will require some effort. And they will certainly be rewarded with stable operation and moderate consumption of your new-old 21099.
