Did you know that essential oils are beneficial not only for beauty and health, but also for your mood?

The creator of the natural cosmetics brand MI&KO talks about how and what oils to use to change your mood and correct your emotional state.

Benefits of essential oils

Essential oils can have different effects on the body. They cleanse, tone, harmonize, invigorate, refresh, stimulate, strengthen. And every time, when used correctly, this influence will be beneficial.

In addition, thanks to the active substances included in the composition, almost all oils have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial and regenerating effects.

Esters are widely used in cosmetology, help cleanse the body of toxins, and normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. They also shape the mood if used in aromatherapy.

Benefits of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is simple and easy to use, easily adaptable to different situations and human activities.

There are several tools that can help you get the most out of essential oils.

For example, if you have a day off or can afford to spend several hours more at home than on a regular weekday, then an aroma lamp would be an ideal option for you.

To fill a room with aromas, or to disinfect the air at home, add 4-7 drops of the oil of your choice to the lamp. In 20 minutes of burning a candle, a room with an area of 15 sq.m. will be filled with the beneficial smell of esters.

It’s even easier to use an aroma stone - you can put it on your desktop. A few drops of oil, no candle required, and the ether will slowly evaporate, improving your health.

An option for the most mobile is an aroma pendant. The principle is the same as with an aroma stone, but in this case you can always carry the aroma with you - around your neck in the form of a charming decoration.

What oils should you use to set yourself a particular mood and correct your emotional state?

Of course, the choice of essential oil depends on the purpose you want to achieve from its use.

If you don't get enough sleep, feel tired, Litsea oil is suitable for you - it regulates sleep and rest patterns. By inhaling it, your body tunes in during the day for productive work, and in the evening for relaxation. Litsea oil also allows you to get enough sleep and restore energy within 6 hours.

By the way, by regularly inhaling ylang-ylang, a mischievous sparkle lights up in a woman’s eyes, she begins to open up to a man, becomes more attractive, desirable, and self-confident.

✔ Geranium oil will help relieve symptoms of ear, nose and throat diseases, and anise helps with dry cough. Inhalations with tea tree and eucalyptus oil relieve inflammation in the throat and relieve nasal congestion.

Simple rules

To use essential oils effectively and safely, you should follow a few simple rules.

  • First, make sure that you are not allergic to the ether you have chosen and there are no contraindications due to health conditions. For example, rosemary oil increases blood pressure, so it should not be used by people with hypertension.
  • Quite a few oils are prohibited for use during pregnancy and lactation - so find out all the details about the properties of oils before you start using them.
  • Secondly, you should like the smell of the chosen oil. Believe me, the ether will have a much smaller effect if you inhale it through force and hostility. What to do if you like the properties of the oil, but cannot stand its smell?
  • In this case, there is a way out - you need to mix this oil with a complementary one - that is, with the one whose smell you like. An amazing effect will work: the resulting essence will have a pleasant aroma for you, and at the same time retain the very properties of the main oil that you needed. The mixture ratio is 3:7, 30% base oil and 70% complementary oil.
  • When mixing oils, you should follow the rules of synergy and complementarity. For example, flower oils go well with coniferous, citrus, and herb oils. The aroma of lavender suits all aromas except rosemary, and the aroma of sandalwood adds depth and tartness to the composition.

  • Another equally important rule is that essential oils must be completely natural. Synthesized oils may not give the effect expected from its use.
  • Usually the label indicates the naturalness of oils, but be careful: in addition to the proud inscription “100% natural essential oil,” it should contain information about the country in which the oil was produced, the date of manufacture and expiration date. Remember that with truly natural oil this period is always shorter!

By following simple rules and discovering new and new aromas of essential oils, you are not just practicing aromatherapy, but discovering new worlds, new possibilities and facets of your mood!

The secret of youth and beauty is in the proper circulation of fluids carrying vital energy and in the regular removal of waste products from the body. Essential oils are an indispensable component of this process.

Harish Johari

I can’t say that I personally am fascinated by the study of essential oils. Rather, they were impressed by their “capabilities.” And I, as an ordinary consumer, follow the benefits.

Today it is fashionable, and almost each of us has already tried DIY at home, “creating” creams and masks based on essential oils.

The process is quite complex, and the knowledge that is exaggerated from book to book, from article to article, was presented back in the distant 70s. Not much has changed since then. And only a few aromatherapists have discovered new properties of oils.

I, like everyone else, exposed to fashion and advertising, bought essential oils. But I didn’t know their true purpose. Until my aunt, psychotherapist, reflexologist Inessa Grigorieva (Belarus) began to tell me about them. Once a month she comes to Riga with lectures, teaching the art of “friendship” with essential oils.

Frivolity with essential oils is unacceptable. When used properly, they are truly beneficial and effective, but some oils must be handled with special precautions. Even when used in small quantities, over time these oils can cause poisoning and poor health.

I seriously fell for the oils’ work after I was cured of constant low blood pressure in a matter of minutes. I can’t say that it has risen to normal, but I definitely feel better. This is what prompted me to explore the possibilities of essential oils, the daily ritual of applying them and carrying a bottle of oil in my bag. What to take with me today is decided by my mood. Maybe lemon - for clarity of thought and from noise in the head, or basil - for order, or orange - when the sky is overcast. You can also drink the oil. A couple of drops and the excess swelling goes away, the stomach ache stops, and the temperature drops.

Today I’ll tell you a little about the oils that I use. It might be useful to you too.

Essential oils for professional aromatherapy should be distinguished from oils used as fragrances in cosmetics and for flavoring in the food industry. The oils used can also be natural, but the process of their production and the degree of purification will not meet the requirements for essential oils intended for professional aromatherapy. In perfumery, it is known to use some chemically synthesized components of natural oils.

Modern technologies make it possible to obtain synthetic analogues of some naturally occurring chemical compounds. This opportunity is widely used by pharmaceutical companies in the manufacture of drugs. But the synthesis of essential oils is unlikely to ever reach perfection.

The synthesis of chemical analogues makes impossible the unique composition of each essential oil and the lack of information about the structure of many of its minor components. It is obvious that only 100% natural essential oils have healing properties, not reconstructed, not synthetic or diluted, but only obtained from natural plants in accordance with the requirements for essential oils for professional aromatherapy. Unnatural and low-quality essential oils pose a real threat to health.

So my favorite is lemon oil.

Lemon oil: has a disinfectant, antiseptic and antiviral effect. Promotes the removal of toxins. Whitens teeth. Eliminates noise in the head, headaches, enhances concentration.

Lemon was widely used in medicine in ancient times and the Middle Ages. The ancient Egyptians used lemon to neutralize poisoned food and during typhoid epidemics. Lemon fruits were brought to Europe only in the Middle Ages. Europeans used it to prevent plague, malaria, fever and as an antidote for snake bites. Herbalists recommended lemon juice to lower blood pressure, remove toxins from the liver, and relieve arthritis pain.

It normalizes blood pressure, reduces cholesterol and prothrombin levels in the blood, prevents the development of atherosclerosis and its complications, therefore it is recommended for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Due to its properties (strengthens the immune system, stimulates the production of red and white blood cells), lemon oil is used to treat diseases associated with weakened immunity (bronchitis, flu, colds, etc.).

Lemon oil is especially effective for viral diseases such as hepatitis, herpes, and respiratory viral infections, as it has pronounced antiviral activity.

In addition, lemon oil helps with headaches, nausea, dizziness caused by cerebral vascular spasms and fatigue. Improves concentration and memory.

In cosmetics: when lemon oil is added to cosmetic creams, massage or vegetable oil, it treats problem skin, whitens age spots, improves complexion, and eliminates vascular patterns. Hand baths with lemon oil effectively strengthen and whiten nails.

It is useful to brush your teeth with lemon oil: it reduces bleeding gums, whitens tooth enamel and prevents the development of caries, and refreshes the oral cavity.

Basil oil

Raises the mood, clears consciousness, increases concentration, develops intuition, strengthens and restores nerves, relieves fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, headaches, vascular spasms.

In the legends and traditions of a number of peoples, basil is mentioned as a symbol of love, immortality and family happiness. The homeland of this plant is Eastern India, where it has long been cultivated as a spicy and medicinal plant. Basil wreaths have even been found in the tombs of the pharaohs of ancient Egypt. It came to Europe from the countries of the East (16th century) and quickly became a favorite spice.

Basil oil is perhaps one of the best tonics for the nervous system. It lifts your spirits, clears your mind, strengthens and restores your nerves, relieves fatigue, anxiety, depression, and headaches. Helps with asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, colds and coughs. Research in recent years has revealed that basil has high bactericidal activity against fungi and microorganisms, mycoplasma pneumoniae, FH- and L-forms of streptococcus. In terms of antibacterial activity, it ranks second after monarda oil.

Juniper oil

Tones and strengthens the nervous system, eliminating fears, laziness, and apathy. Relieves inflammation of the lung and bronchial tissue, effective against colds and flu. Normalizes menstruation.

Juniper is one of the relict medicinal plants, known since biblical times, when it was used to drive out evil spirits. The Indians of North America used juniper to treat wounds and diseases of the skin, bones and joints, placing patients in juniper thickets, where the air was saturated with healing volatile substances. French hospitals burned juniper during the smallpox epidemic. It was also used everywhere to combat the plague and other infectious diseases. In the Middle Ages, the healing properties of juniper were discovered, which are successfully used to this day.

Juniper essential oil has a strong spicy aroma with a fruity undertone. It contains: pinene, camphene, cadinene, terpineol, borneol, juniper camphor, which perfectly cleanse the body, removing various toxins, uric acid salts, and excess fluid.

Juniper oil has a pronounced anti-rheumatic and anti-gout effect, therefore it is widely used for gout, articular rheumatism, metabolic-dystrophic arthrosis-arthritis, and spinal osteochondrosis. It has a good expectorant effect, thereby helping to more quickly cure bronchitis and pneumonia. The oil is effective for colds: ARVI, influenza. It helps eliminate toxins and reduce body temperature, stimulates the immune system.

In cosmetology and dermatology, the oil is used for oily skin, acne, and pimples. It cleanses the skin, increasing its barrier functions. It is also a meditation oil.

Ylang-ylang

Oil of pleasures. A strong aphrodisiac. Relaxes, eliminating fears, depression, stress, fatigue, insomnia, enhances energy, and increases a sense of self-confidence. Helps with frigidity, impotence, increases libido.

The aroma of the ylang-ylang plant has long been considered the aroma of “love and sensuality.” Grows in tropical areas of Asia, the Philippines and Indonesia. The oil is produced in Madagascar and the Comoros Islands. In Indonesia, newlyweds are still decorated with fragrant wreaths of ylang-ylang. Its aromatic smoke is used to fumigate the home to protect against quarrels and discord. Polynesian women use it as a perfume. In the Moluccas, an ointment using the oil of this plant is used to treat infectious diseases, such as malaria, as well as various skin infections. In the Victorian era, this oil was part of a balm for hair growth. The rich, sweet, sensual floral aroma of this oil lives up to its Polynesian name, “Flower of Flowers.”

Ylang-ylang has a positive effect on the nervous system, relaxes, eliminating anxiety and tension, anger and fear. Effective for depression, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, PMS.

The healing effect of this oil is fully manifested in cardiovascular diseases. It lowers blood pressure, calms shortness of breath and palpitations.

Ylang-ylang oil has a universal effect on the skin, positively affecting both dry and oily skin, helps eliminate acne, and is beneficial for irritable and damaged skin. Helps with insect bites. This oil gently disinfects and tones, stimulates blood circulation in capillaries and perfectly nourishes skin cells. It is also very useful for caring for hair, especially weak and damaged hair. This is one of the intimate cosmetics.

As an aphrodisiac, it has a stimulating erotic effect, increasing sexual desire. The aroma of ylang-ylang creates a slight euphoria and liberates sensuality. This is one of the most erotic and romantic oils. Helps with frigidity and impotence. This is the oil of “delights”.

To be continued.
